Coos Co. Unemployment, Sept. 26

Coos County’s seasonally adjusted August unemployment rate decreased slightly to 4.9 percent from a revised 5.0 percent in July. The rate is below the August 2017 rate (5.7%). Oregon’s seasonally adjusted August unemployment rate was 3.8 percent; the national rate was 3.9 percent. The county’s total payroll employment increased over the month by 140 jobs. Industries reporting over-the-month employment gains included trade, transportation, and utilities (+50; especially retail trade, +30); and professional and business services (+30). There were no reported substantive over-the-month employment losses. Coos County added 36 0 jobs over the year ending in August for a 1.6 percent annual job change.  Curry County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained the same as the revised 5.5 percent in July. The rate is below the August 2017 rate of 6.1 percent. Curry County’s total nonfarm payroll employment increased over the month by 30 jobs.
