Freshman Christina MacDonald increased her collegiate best in the javelin by a foot and a half at the Linfield Open in McMinnville on Saturday. The Sutherlin product progressed on each of her first three throws, going 117’, 121’ 4” and 129’ 2”. After a brief dip on her fourth attempt to 125’ 6”, MacDonald unleashed her PR of 140’ 5” on her fifth try to win the day’s event. The freshman, who already owns the school record with the new implement, is now 14th in the Pac-12 this season and sixth among freshmen. Her previous best came at the OSU High Performance Meet on May 2 (128’ 11”). In the high jump, Justine Bird cleared 4’ 10.50” to finish third, her best mark since crossing 4’ 11” at the John Knight Twilight on April 11. MacDonald and Bird wrapped up regular-season action for OSU at Linfield on Saturday. A handful of Beavers competed at Friday night’s Oregon Twilight in Eugene, while the rest recuperated in preparation for next weekend’s Pac-12 Championships in Pullman, Wash.
