Numbers illustrate how dominant Oregon was in its NCAA softball regional this past weekend, but they don’t explain it.  The Ducks capped a three-game sweep of their regional Sunday with a 6-0 win over Wisconsin, thanks to shutout pitching from Karissa Hovinga and Cheridan Hawkins. Oregon outscored the opposition 24-2 in three games, with its top three hitters combining to go 17-of-32 for the weekend.  The top-ranked team in the country and No. 1 national seed in the postseason, Oregon improved to 52-7-1 on Sunday. The Ducks will host Minnesota in the Super Regionals, on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. and — if necessary — 5 p.m.

Oregon’s bullpen threw nearly a complete game of scoreless relief and Nick Catalano drove in the winning run in the 11th inning Sunday, giving the Ducks a 5-4 win at UCLA and their first Pac-12 road sweep of the season.  The UO baseball team (40-16, 17-10 Pac-12) rallied back from a 4-1 deficit to remain in a third-place tie with Arizona State in the conference. Oregon hosts Oregon State in a nonconference game Tuesday and California for a three-game series at PK Park beginning Thursday, with all four games starting at 7 p.m. PT on Pac-12 Networks.

Oregon State senior left-hander Ben Wetzler blanked Washington 3-0 on a brilliant two-hitter on Sunday to move the Beavers to within one victory of a repeat Pacific-12 Conference championship.  Wetzler struck out nine, did not allow a runner past first base and picked off another in improving his record to 10-1 overall and 8-1 in the Pac-12. He is 20-1 in his last 21 decisions over the past two seasons and he extended his school-record for career wins to 34.  The Beavers are 21-4 overall and 12-3 in Pac-12 games at Goss Stadium this season, with a home NCAA regional likely to come. They have 20 or more home wins in four of the past five years, and at least 40 wins in four consecutive seasons.

Pac-12 tr
The Oregon men’s and women’s track and field teams swept the Pac-12 Championships for the sixth-straight year, as the men won their eighth-consecutive title with 163.25 points and the women picked up their sixth in a row with 176 points.  Jenna Prandini was named the women’s Athlete of the Meet after winning three individual events, the first woman to do so since Seilala Sue of UCLA won three in 1999. Prandini entered the second day of competition with the long jump title under her belt. She started the day by winning the 100 in 11.21 and followed up with a blazing 200 win in a school record 22.60, the second-fastest time in the NCAA this season.  Prandini was a part of 38 Oregon points, also running on the women’s 4×100 relay to start the meet.
