Coos Bay Fire Department Responds to a House Fire, May 20

News release from the Coos Bay Fire Dept.  On May 18th at 11:26 p.m., the Coos Bay Fire Department responded to the report of a house fire at 1230 Dakota Avenue which is located in the Englewood area of Coos Bay.  The first arriving firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the structure and fire exiting a window near the rear of the home.  A neighbor noticed the fire and called 911.  No one was home at the time of the fire.  The home is owned and occupied by David Clark.  The home suffered heavy fire, smoke, and heat damage throughout the structure.  The fire was knocked down in about 10 minutes, and it was under control within 40 minutes of arrival.  Firefighters worked for approximately two more hours mopping up hot spots and overhauling the building to ensure that the fire was fully extinguished.  An investigation into the cause of the fire was conducted by the Coos Bay Fire Department, and it has been determined that the area of origin of the fire was in an enclosed porch area in the rear of the structure. The cause of the fire appears to be heat transfer from an electrical issue in the homes electrical box which is located on the wall of the enclosed porch.  The Coos Bay Fire Department estimates the fire damage to the structure to be $65,000 and $10,000 to the occupant’s contents.  The owner’s home and contents are a total loss and were not covered by insurance.  If you need additional information about this incident please contact Battalion Chief Dan Crutchfield or Fire Chief Mark Anderson at 541-269-1191.
