NBPL release – The North Bend Public Library is proud to announce the opening of the North Bend Seed Library. Starting Saturday, April 13, patrons are welcome to check out seeds. Patrons may check out a maximum of three packets a day. Unlike other library materials, there is no need to “return” the seeds, but at the end of the season patrons are encouraged to bring seeds from their garden to replenish the library’s collection. The seed library is housed in an old card catalog. The seed library is a coproduction of the Coquille Valley Seed Community and NBPL. The current selection of seeds has been donated by the members of the CVSC, as well as Adaptive Seeds, an Oregon-based seed company. Both Adaptive Seeds and the CVSC adhere to the Open Source Seed Initiative (OSSI), so the seeds in the library are non-proprietary and non-GMO. To celebrate this inauguration, the library has invited Renee Blom of South Coast Community Garden Association to speak on the topic of seed propagation, which is the act of starting plants from seeds, as opposed to cuttings or pre-purchased seedlings. The talk will be April 13, and begins at 2:00 pm. The North Bend Public Library thanks the Coquille Valley Seed Community and Adaptive Seed for their generosity.
