Vehicle Pursuit, May 7

CBPD release – The Coos Bay Police Department is seeking public assistance in locating a wanted fugitive.  On Saturday, May 4, 2019 at about midnight Coos Bay Police attempted to stop a yellow in color Ford Mustang on Woodland Drive near North Bend Medical Center.  Police received information the previous day that the vehicle was potentially being operated by 24-year-old Jacob Stanton Potter of Coos Bay and the registration tags on the vehicle had been altered.  Potter had an active warrant for his arrest out of the Oregon State Parole Board for parole violations on the original charge of sexual assault. Potter didn’t stop for police and drove at or near the speed limit into the Empire District of Coos Bay.  Potter then fled onto Cape Arago Highway and eventually made his way to Highway 101.  Potter fled from police to Bandon, where spike strips were successfully deployed and deflated both of the passenger side tires on the vehicle.  Potter turned around and fled back to the Coos Bay area where he eventually stopped the vehicle at the end of Hollywood Lane and fled on foot.  Potter was tracked by Coos County Sheriff’s Sergeant Slater and K9 Odin, but wasn’t located. There was no significant property damage or injuries as a result of the pursuit.  Top speeds in the pursuit were approximately 75 miles per hour on Highway 101, though most of the pursuit was held to under 40 miles per hour, due to the successful spike strip deployment. Potter is still wanted on the outstanding warrant and on the new charges of elude, elude on foot, and reckless driving.  Anyone with tips or information about Potter’s whereabouts are urged to call the Coos Bay Police Department at 541-269-8911 or Coos Stop Crime at 541-267-2666.
