Sector North Bend Locates Overdue Hikers, May 15

USCG release – NORTH BEND, Ore. — The Coast Guard located two lost female hikers, Tuesday morning, May 14, who were missing overnight near the Baker Beach Trail near Florence. A Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin aircrew, from Sector North Bend, located the two hikers and an aviation survival technician was lowered down to them to evaluate the hikers conditions and lead them to a nearby search and rescue ground party. Coast Guard watchstanders at Sector North Bend received an agency assist from Oregon Emergency Management personnel for an ongoing missing hiker case at 6:55 a.m. A Dolphin aircrew was launched at 8:12 a.m. and the hikers were located at 8:55 a.m. Crewmembers from Coast Guard Station Siuslaw River assisted in search efforts as part of the ground party. There were no reported injuries but the hikers were reported to be cold.
