The FILM NOIR series at Coos Bay Public Library continues on Sunday, May 19th at 4:00. This month’s feature is Robert Siodmak’s 1944 underappreciated masterpiece “Phantom Lady”. Alan Curtis plays Scott Henderson, an unhappily married business man who steps out one night to get away from his daily grind of bickering with his wife. There he strikes up a conversation with a mysterious, despondent lady who agrees to accompany him to a show uptown but withholds her name. Returning home, he finds his wife strangled and becomes the prime suspect in her murder. He has a solid alibi but his theatre companion is nowhere to be found and no one remembers seeing them together. When Scott is charged with murdering his wife, it falls to his devoted secretary ‘Kansas’ (Ella Raines) to find the phantom lady and save Scott from the electric chair… The Film Noir series is held on the third Sunday of the month.
