Coos Bay City Council Action Report, June 9

Council Meeting Date:  June 3, 2014; Council Action Taken:  It was a unanimous vote to appoint Brian Bowers to complete the term of Dr. John Muenchrath who resigned from his Council seat for professional pursuits. Councilor Bowers was sworn in, and joined the Council at the June 3, 2014 meeting.  More Information:  Councilor Mike Vaughan expressed feeling great camaraderie with Councilor Muenchrath, describing Muenchrath as fearless in pursuing his vision for a representative Council. “John will be missed,” he said.  Councilor Bowers worked in the financial industry in Coos County for over 25 years.  Councilor Bowers has recently accepted a position as the Coos Bay Downtown Association’s Main Street Manager.  Councilor Bowers has served on various committees benefitting the community, and he is a former President of the Coos Bay Downtown Association.  Bowers said that community service is very important to him.  In welcoming Bowers to the Council, Mayor Shoji said, “Brian has served on the City’s Budget Committee for several years.  We are pleased to work with him on the Council.”  Councilor Bowers is a lifetime resident of Coos County with a Bachelor’s degree in History and Economics from California State University.  Councilor Bowers and his wife, Denise, have four children.
