A 15-year old female was detained Monday morning by Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) and Oregon State Police (OSP) as she reportedly attempted to take her own life by moving into traffic on Interstate 5 near Myrtle Creek in Douglas County. The girl was transported to Mercy Medical Center for a mental health evaluation. On June 9, 2014 at approximately 8:45 a.m., DCSO and OSP responded to northbound Interstate 5 near milepost 105 following reports of a female running into traffic. Citizens had stopped and provided dispatch updates of what the girl was doing. A DCSO deputy arrived first and established communication with the girl, followed by OSP troopers. The girl told officers she wanted to end her life by getting hit by passing traffic. She was taken into custody on a police officer hold and transported by OSP to the hospital.
