High Speed Pursuit on Hwy. 20, June 27

On June 26th at approximately 2:25 AM Lincoln County Deputies were notified Philomath Police Department and Benton County Sheriff’s Office were in a pursuit of a vehicle failing to yield west bound on Hwy 20 at speeds reported near 100 MPH. Lincoln County Deputies monitored rapidly changing updates as the pursuit continued west on Hwy 20. Officers from Newport Police Department and Toledo Police Department began a response setting up possible spike strip locations along the suspected route. The suspect turned onto Elk City Road off of Hwy 20 near mile post 15. The suspect continued west until Sunnyridge Rd in Toledo. The suspect then took a series of turns onto gravel logging roads which lead the pursuit onto North Beaver Creek Road in the Seal Rock area. At approximately mile post 2 on North Beaver Creek Rd., Deputy Derick Smith successfully deployed spike strips on the vehicle. Subsequent spike strips were deployed by Deputy Siscilee Gouge and Sergeant Karl Vertner near mile post 1 when the suspect continued to elude. After the third deployment the suspect continued to elude on three flat tires to the intersection of North Beaver Creek and Hwy 101 where the driver turned north and then east onto Estate Drive in a quiet subdivision know as Makai. The suspect turned down a dead end street and ultimately stopped the vehicle. The suspect, Eddy Lee Brown age 49 of Newport, was taken into custody without further incident. The elude covered approximately 60 miles of road over 1 hour. Mr. Brown was initially lodged at the Lincoln County Jail on charges related to the pursuit. Additional charges were added as Mr. Brown was under investigation by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office for a crime spree he conducted during the winter months of 2019. Mr. Brown’s charges include Theft, Burglary, Criminal Mischief, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving, Attempt to Elude Police. His bail is $650,000.00. Additional charges are expected out of Benton County where the pursuit originated.
