News release from the Newport PD. On June 9, 2014 at about 3:50 p.m., Newport Police Officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance at the South Beach Marina. During their investigation, Officers learned that Brittany Baarson-Hanson, age 20 of South Beach, and an adult male, age 26 of South Beach, had been involved in a verbal argument. During the argument,t Baarson-Hanson picked up a kitchen knife and attempted to stab the victim in the face and head. The victim was able to avoid being stabbed; however while trying to get the knife from Baarson-Hanson, he was cut on his left hand. Medical personnel responded and examined the victim’s injury. The victim refused on-scene medical treatment. Baarson-Hanson was arrested and lodged in the Lincoln County Jail on charges of Assault in the 2nd Degree, Unlawful use of a Weapon, and Assault IV (Domestic Violence). Her bail was set at $100,000.00.
