Former Marshfield state cross country champion Jared Bassett (32:41.3) returned to the Bay Area Saturday and won the 40th Annual Prefontaine Memorial 10K Run. Its the seond time Bassett has won the race. Heather Johnson (37:21.7) was the top female finisher. Zachry Traul (15:54.4), of Roseburg, won the high school boys race, while Faith Schultz (18:45.6), of Grants Pass, won the girl’s race. Grants Pass swept the boy’s & girl’s team races. North Bend’s girls, led by Celeste Sinko (14th – 21:33.5) placed fourth. Marshfield, led by Kaylee Delzotti (9th – 21:07.9) placed fifth. Marshfield’s boys, led by Aaron Prince (12th – 17:31.7) took fourth place, while North Bend’s boys, led by Alexander Garcia-Silver’s (16.17.6) second place finish overall, took sixth as a team. More than 1,100 particpated in the two-mile walk, high school races, or open 10K.
