This local news brief is brought to you by Southwest Oregon Regional Airport www.flyoth.com with air service from North Bend to San Francisco.

Good Friday morning.  Here we are.  Last day of the first month of this New Year.  Wow!  And, it’s a “Weekend in the West.”  Not great weather-wise, but with the Super Bowl on Sunday, makes for a nice start to the second month of our New Year.  Clouds, some rain, highs and lows nearly the same, low to mid 50s and high 40s.  Winds out of the South at 10-15 mph today.  In our news, check out the NBPD logs for yesterday.  They arrested a male from Curry Co. on counterfeit charges.  There has been a lot of counterfeit money floating around the Bay Area lately.  Air B&B opportunities look good in North Bend, Planning Commission approves an application involving a short term rental.  Monthly radon testing promoted in some valley counties of Oregon. Talking about Long-Term Care Insurance in Salem today.  Permaculture discussion at NBPL Saturday. And, keeping with the Farm Theme, NBPL also has a discussion on raising chickens Saturday.  Oregon Farm Bureau celebrating women’s contribution to agriculture in the State.  BLM seeking nominations regarding reclamation and sustainable mineral development.  Sounds like a mouthful!  Federal tax breaks that have been extended.  Shooting in Douglas Co.  Police logs show warrant arrests, probation violators, PCS Heroin arrest, disputes, failing to do the duties of a driver, and more.  In sports, prep schedules for the weekend for both MHS & NBHS.  SWOCC basketball at home Saturday.  A good night for the Oregon Schools in Pac-12 basketball play last night on the road.  They’ll continue on Saturday, but nothing on Sunday as they clear the way for the Super Bowl.  Have a good weekend and have fun with your Chiefs & 49ers, but be responsible.  Local police say the Super Bowl is a big event that sometimes produces drivers who shouldn’t be driving.  They’ll be out looking for them.  Take care and thank you for reading.  Feel free to share with others.      .  Matt
