Coos Co. DA – COVID-19, March 18

Coos County District Attorney R. Paul Frasier has instituted changes in his office at the Courthouse in Coquille due to the COVID-19 virus concerns. According to a news release, “I anticipate that the local Courts will be cancelling all Criminal Court Hearings remaining in March except for defendants who are in custody.” The Coos County Grand Jury will continue to convene, but only for cases where the defendant is already in custody or where a preliminary hearing is set will be heard. Speedy Trial requirements cannot be waived, “if defendants insist upon their statutory right to a speedy trial, that right must be honored.” The DA’s Office will be open to conduct business; however, “we will not be open to in person public contact.” DA Frasier hopes that the “restrictions will be short lived.”
