A virtual memorial service for Bill McChesney, one of the pillars of Eugene’s track and field community, will take place on Tuesday, April 14 at noon (PDT) according to Bill’s sons, Ken and Steve. Mourners can attend remotely on the platform GatheringUs. The service will be conducted by pastor John Lodwick, a former elite distance runner with Eugene-based Athletics West. McChesney was a past president of the Oregon Track Club, a record-setting master’s athlete, and a longtime official at Hayward Field. He died Monday in Eugene at 91. His sons all ran for South Eugene High School with Bill Jr. advancing on to the University of Oregon and the U.S Olympic Team.
