Anchovie run, July 30

It’s one of those mysteries marine researchers can only speculate about.  Similar to the unknown reason why certain whales will beach themselves in mass, scientists are not sure why thousands of anchovies filled the Necanicum River in downtown Seaside, Monday, July 28, and died.  The bottom line was too many fish for too little oxygen in the river.  That led to a massive die off but also a feast for hungry pelicans and seagulls.  The other result of the large die off is the accompanying smell.  It will linger for a few days.
