Cliff Rescue Folo, June 15

CCSO release – On June 11th, 2020, at approximately 1201 PM, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call with a report regarding 51 year old Audrey Lee and her son, 18 year old James Lee. Both Audrey and James had slipped and fallen off the ledge of the cliff at the Cape Arago State Park at the end of Cape Arago Highway.  The caller reported James had fallen to the bottom of the cliff and appeared injured, while the Audrey was hanging onto the cliff trying not to fall to the bottom as well. Units with the Regional Technical Response team comprised of units from Charleston Fire Department, Coos Bay Fire Department, North Bend Fire Department and North Bay Fire Department responded for rope rescue, along with Oregon State Police, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, Bay Cities Ambulance and Oregon State Parks. The United State Coast Guard (USCG) sent two helicopters and other resources to assist with retrieving both individuals. After a combined effort from all personnel on scene, Audrey was rescued and transported to the USCG Air Station to have her minor injuries evaluated. The second USCG Helicopter was able to rescue James, who was suffering from multiple injuries and transported to the USCG Air Station. The son was transported to Bay Area Hospital by Bay Cities Ambulance to be treated. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone that while the Oregon Coast is a beautiful place to travel and adventure, it can also be very dangerous.
