SUMPTER, Ore — The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department’s (OPRD) All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Highway Access Routes Advisory Committee will meet via conference call 10 a.m. – noon Oct. 8 to discuss a proposed ATV access route designation for a segment of a state highway in Sumpter. The call is open to the public, but there will not be time for public comments during the meeting. The committee will also give an overview of the proposed designation. The proposed ATV access route designation would allow ATVs on a 1¼ mile segment of Sumpter Highway No. 410, located in the town of Sumpter, west of Baker City. The proposed segment runs from approximately Cracker Creek Road to Sawmill Gulch Road (from milepost 0.0 to 1.18). If designated, the segment would provide ATV access to local businesses as well as Umatilla National Forest lands to the north and south of Sumpter. How to access the conference call: Listen only: dial 1 (415) 655-0060, access code ID: 250-484-603. Register online to listen and view the presentation. Individuals who need special accommodations to listen to the call, or to request information in alternative formats, should contact Ian Caldwell, OPRD grants and community programs representative, at 541-410-5512. A public comment period for the proposed designation is open through Oct. 4. Send comments via email to: atv.highway@oregon.gov. A virtual public meeting to take public comment on the project is scheduled Sep. 29. The ATV Highway Access Route Advisory Committee meets as needed to review sections of highways that are proposed for ATV access and make recommendations to the Oregon Transportation Commission.
