Hwy. 38 Fatal Update, Nov. 3

Torres was released from the hospital on November 1, 2020 and was taken into custody by Oregon State Police Troopers and transported to the Douglas County Jail where he was lodged on the following charges:  Manslaughter / Recklessly Endangering Another Person / Reckless Driving / Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants / Assault III. Original release – On Saturday, October 31, 2020 at approximately 5:15 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on Hwy 38 near mile post 34. Preliminary investigation revealed a Honda Odyssey, operated by Jose Torres (40) of Van Nuys, CA. was westbound when it left the roadway, traveled down an embankment, and rolled. The passenger, Alfredo Valdez-Perez (46) of unknown, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. Torres was transported by air ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Springfield.
