Marshfield’s girls won the 4A District 4 Track & Field Championship Saturday at Florence. The Pirate boys were second to host Siuslaw. The Lady Pirates won six events led by seniors Mira Matthews, Reagan Rhodes & Shelia Rojas. Matthews won both the Javelin (119-00) and Discus (119-11). She was also third in the Shot Put (35-02) and named the meet’s outstanding female thrower. Rhodes won the Pole Vault (8-06) and the Long Jump (14-02.75). She also ran a leg on the second place 4X100 Relay (54.28) along with Rojas, Amanda Cross & Charlie Dea. Rojas was second in the 100 (13.56) and won the 200 (28.38). The Pirate boys were led by freshman Jonathon Parks who won both the Pole Vault (14-00) and Long Jump (20-05) and was named the outstanding male jumper. He also placed fourth in the 200 (23.93) and ran a leg on the second place 4X100R (45.88) along with Aaron Hutchins, Cael Church & Sam Grayson. Hutchins won the 400 (54.47) and was fifth in the 200 (23.22). Grayson took second in the High Jump (5-10) and Trent Summers was second in the Pole Vault (13-04) while Jack Waddington placed third (13-4). Marshfield’s Roxy Day was second in the Pole Vault (8-06). The 4A classification’s state championships are scheduled for Siuslaw HS Friday and Saturday. North Bend had the weekend off, but will send some Bulldogs to the 5A Invitational at Wilsonville Friday and Saturday.
