It’s been a busy year for Marshfield’s Dom Montiel. Heading into his final season with the Pirates this Fall, the three-sport athlete has gained regional recognition in football. He’s scheduled to attend a camp in the Evergreen State this weekend and he’s been mentioned as one of the top five QB’s to keep an eye on. “Dom Montiel, Marshfield senior quarterback, has good size (6-2, 190), and had a breakout junior-year campaign – 1,711 passing yards and 23 touchdowns in just six games. Many of the strongest-arm high school quarterbacks around will be competing at the region’s highest-profile summer event – the Northwest 9 (NW9) Showcase – at the Sozo Sports Complex, Yakima, WA. After two days of workouts (Aug. 6-7), the championship finals for seniors, underclassmen (sophomores and juniors) and ninth graders will be held Aug. 8.” Montiel has already attended camps at Eugene, Portland, and Ashland sandwiched around a busy prep baseball schedule.
