CCSO release – On August 15, 2021, at about 9:45 PM, Coos County Deputies were dispatched to 180 E Cedar St in Powers for a reported arson in progress. The resident of the home smelled smoke and went outside to discover a female attempting to light the house on fire. The resident confronted the suspect, who started to leave the scene. The resident went to retrieve a garden hose and discovered a second fire under the crawl space on the back of the house. The resident was able to extinguish the fires before the house caught fire. The suspect attempted to stop the resident multiple times from extinguishing the fire. The suspect walked away from the scene, but was followed by Powers Fire Department until deputies arrived and contacted the suspect. The suspect was identified as Kimberly Sturman, 54 years old of Powers. Sturman admitted to being at the property, but denied any knowledge of the fires. The resident was able to provide a cell phone picture of the suspect at the time of the fire. Sturman was arrested for Arson in the First Degree. Sturman was transported to the Coos County Jail, where she was booked and lodged without incident.
