CBFD Story at CBPL
CBPL release – The Coos Bay Library is joining forces with the Coos Bay Fire Department for a series of two special storytimes to mark Fire Prevention Month. Storytimes will be offered at Station No. 1, 450 Elrod Avenue at 10:00am Thursday, October 28, and at the Empire Station at 189 Wall Street at 10:00am Friday, October 29. Masking and social distancing consistent with state guidelines will be required. Each storytime will feature a book, rhymes and songs. Fire fighters will be on hand to talk with kids and families. The program is geared towards children 6 and under and an adult parent or caregiver. Children who attend will receive a free book. “We’re excited about the opportunity to offer a storytime with the Coos Bay Fire Department” commented Coos Bay Library Director Sami Pierson. “We love partnering with local organizations like the Fire Department and reaching audiences outside the library.” The Library currently offers outreach every Friday at both the Eastside (9:00am) and Empire Fire Departments (10:00am). At the outreach events, the library offers free books for people to add to their home libraries. People who attend the regular Friday events can also drop off books or request holds be delivered. The effort is part of the Library’s ongoing efforts to provide services where people need them.
In addition to responding to approximately 3,700 emergency requests for assistance annually, the Coos Bay Fire Department provides a number of proactive services including fire and safety inspections, emergency planning (disaster), consultative services and educational programs for the general public and business community. The department provides services to the City of Coos Bay as well as contracted fire and medical service to Timber Park, Libby and Bunker Hill Fire Protection Districts, encompassing an area of 17 square miles and a population of approximately 23,000. The Department operates Station No. 1, the Empire Station and a Station in Eastside.
