Marshfield’s Alexander Garcia-Silver won the 4A District 4 boy’s cross-country championship Thursday at Lane CC in Eugene. The junior finished the 5K course in 16:25.40 to runner-up Chad Hughes of Siuslaw in 16:42.10. Siuslaw won the boy’s title with 29-points. Marshfield was fourth with 77. The Pirate top five included senior Jacob Calvert 13th 18:12.30; freshman Elijah Cellura 17th 18:32.40; sophomore Corbin Reeves 22nd 19:24.10; and sophomore Bridger Olson 28th 20:18.20. Marist Catholic won the girl’s District Championship. Marshfield ran incomplete. Siuslaw senior Rylee Colton won in 19:30.70. Marshfield senior Bailey Wallack was 12th 22:23.40. The rest of the Pirates: 24th Sara Weatherly 25:04.60; 26th Elizabeth Delgado 26:32.60; 30th Jenna Erickson 31:22.50.

Marshfield’s boys are ranked No. 8 in the final OSAA/Coach’s 4A Cross Country Poll for the 2021 Season. Siuslaw is the top-ranked 4A boys team. Bandon’s boys top the 2A/1A Poll. Bandon also has the top-ranked girl’s 3A/2A/1A team, while Siuslaw’s girls are No. 2 in the 4A Poll.

Visiting Churchill downed North Bend’s girls 1-0 in a 5A Midwestern League soccer match at Vic Adams Field Thursday. The Bulldogs finish the regular season (0-8, 11-1-1). North Bend’s boys beat visiting Churchill 2-1. The Bulldogs (2-5-1, 5-6-1) end the regular season.

The unbeaten Pirates (10-0) host once-beaten Marist Catholic (7-1) in a 4A District 4 finale for the League Crown, Friday, Pete Susick Stadium, Coos Bay, 7 p.m. kickoff. Once beaten North Bend is No. 4 in the final OSAA/Coach’s 5A Volleyball Poll. The Bulldogs (20-1) trail top-ranked West Albany (22-3), Crescent Valley (17-4) & Ridgeview (20-1). North Bend will open the First Round of the OSAA 5A Playoffs at home Saturday, 1 p.m., to St. Helens (9-10). Marshfield (12-6) travels to Baker (15-6) Saturday for a First Round OSAA 4A Playoff, 2 p.m., broadcast on FM 105.1 KMHS and streamed at www.kmhsonline.com. The Lady Pirates are tied with fellow league mates Siuslaw & Junction City in the final OSAA 4A Coach’s Poll at No. 9. Baker is No. 7.
