A couple who spent the night in the cold-wet woods of Southern Curry Co. Dec. 21st, admitted to Search & Rescue personnel that they most likely would not have made it another night if not for volunteers who located them up steep-bushy terrain near the Winchuck River, east of Brookings. Fifty-six year old David Scoma and 54-year old Carrie Mullen went hiking the day before, but got lost in the woods. During a 9-1-1 cell phone call from Scoma to Curry Co. Sheriff’s dispatch, an operator was able to get a general GPS location, but then call dropped. The couple’s vehicle was located along side Peavine Road. SAR deployed about 1:30 p.m. An hour the two were located. Emergency personnel assessed them at the site , but they refused additional medical help and returned to their vehicle.
