Rain and High, Very High Tides, Jan. 4

Coos Bay, the actual bay, was overflowing onto North Bayshore Drive Monday, Jan. 3. Heavy rains, runoff, and extremely high tides all combined to make large water ways on Hwy. 101 between city and its neighbor to the north on higher ground, North Bend. Motorist in Coos Bay dealt with a water sprout at Golden and Hwy. 101 through a manhole cover, intersections covered by water, and overflowing parking lots at the US Coast Guard Orca and the next-door US Army Corps of Engineers on the bayside. A duck paddling through the Corps of Engineers parking lot kind of said it all while nearby vehicles continued to negotiated the overflowing water in the lanes of travel.
