Fatal Accidents, Deschutes & Yamhill Counties, Feb. 2

Hwy. 153 Fatal, Yamhill Co.
On Monday, January 31, 2022 at approximately 3:00 PM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash on Hwy 153 near milepost 13. Preliminary investigation revealed a northbound Honda Passport, operated by Steven Higby (28) of Salem, crossed over into the oncoming lane of travel and collided head-on with a Toyota Camry, operated by Jacquelyn Kinder (18) of Salem. Kinder sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. Higby was transported to an area hospital with significant injuries. Hwy 153 was closed for approximately 4 hours while the scene was investigated.

Johnson Ranch Road Fatal, Deschutes Co.
On Monday, January 31, 2022 at approximately 9:07 PM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on Johnson Ranch Road, a half mile south of Sterns Road. Preliminary investigation revealed Lisa Peaslee (50) of Bend fled from a Deschutes County Sheriff’s Department Deputy who was stopping the Toyota Scion for violations. During the ensuing pursuit the Toyota Scion crossed over southbound lane of travel and struck a rock embankment on the southbound shoulder. The vehicle rolled and came to rest in the roadway. Peaslee sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. OSP was assisted by Bend Police Department and Deschutes County Road Department. Johnson Ranch Road was closed for approximately 7 hours while Oregon State Police and Bend Police Department Collision Reconstruction Units investigated the scene.
