The numbers have been good this Commercial Dungeness Crab Season off the Oregon Coast. According to the Oregon Dungeness Crab Commission, more than 15-million pounds of crab have been landed so far this season as compared to 12-million for all of last season. Commercial crabbers got off to a good start in December for the first time in several years. That momentum has carried over to a record breaking haul. So far the value has been estimated at $80 million, as compared to $74 million for al of the 2017-18 season. The commercial crab season runs from the first of December into the middle of August; however, the lion’s share of the catch normally occurs during the first two months.
