CBPD 2021 Report, Feb. 17

Part of City of Coos Bay Newsletter, Feb. 11, 2022 – Our calls for service increased and a there was a greater demand for CBPD presence. In 2021, our dispatch center received 32,472 calls for service for the City of Coos Bay. Further, our officers took nearly 4,000 case numbers, which generally required a more in-depth investigation along with detailed reports sent to the District Attorney’s Office. Our officers conducted over 3,300 traffic stops and made over 70 Driving Under the Influence (DUII) arrests. Our records unit assisted thousands of people visited the department’s lobby and they processed over 10,275 police reports along with record related documents.
Our Evidence Technician handled over 7,000 pieces of evidence and our detectives investigated over 100 felony person / property crimes. Our detectives also assisted the Coos County Major Crime Team on four different occasions one of which was the quadruple homicide in North Bend. Our dispatchers answered the phones 73,311 times and dispatched emergency services or provided emergency lifesaving instructions to callers experiencing a major crisis. Our Community Resource Officer handled over 1,439 calls for service and assisted over 100 homeless individuals connect to much-needed resources within our community. Overall, 2021 was an extremely busy year that brought a multitude of difficulties for the members of the CBPD. Many of the challenges were exacerbated by the on-going struggles caused by the COVID pandemic; however, it was also a year of many accomplishments and milestones. The CBPD looks forward to what 2022 will bring and we will continue to provide the best, most professional service we possibly can to our community.
