Hit & Run, Elude, Lane Co., Feb. 24

On Tuesday, 02/22/22 just before 5:00pm, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office was advised of a hit and run crash that had just occurred near the intersection of Mill Rd. and McKenzie Hwy. in Blue River. The suspect vehicle, a white U-Haul box van, left westbound on McKenzie Hwy. after striking a parked vehicle. A Lane County Sheriff’s McKenzie District deputy observed the suspect vehicle driving westbound on McKenzie Hwy. in the Vida area about 10 minutes after receiving the report. The deputy initiated a traffic stop. At first the driver pulled over, but sped away moments into the traffic stop. The deputy began to pursue the driver with his emergency lights and siren activated. After about one mile, the driver stopped the van and reversed, intentionally striking the front of the deputy’s patrol vehicle. The driver then fled again westbound on McKenzie Hwy. Although damaged, the deputy’s vehicle was not disabled and he was able to continue following the fleeing van. The driver crashed the van near the intersection of Main St. and 69th St. in Springfield. The driver was taken into custody on multiple charges including: Hit & Run, Elude by Vehicle, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering, Criminal Mischief in the 1st Degree, and Assault on a Public Safety Officer. The driver was identified as 30 year old Jeffrey Feaster. Feaster’s last known address is in Chicago, IL. Feaster was transported and lodged at the Lane County Jail.
