Central Coast Historic Building Demolished, Feb. 25

Originally opened in 1931 as a Dance Hall, the Waldport Community Building came down recently on the Central Oregon Coast. It fell victim to time, lack of maintenance, no restoration and finally two-decades of just sitting empty. After serving originally as the Rustic Ballroom, the building on Spring St., just off Hwy. 34, was converted into a roller skating rink and renamed the Rustic Roller. Before it was a decade old, the building was sold and converted again. This time as a bowling alley called Waldport Bowling Allies, with pool tables. In the late 40s it once again hosted dances before adjusting to provide space for a variety of businesses including floral, remote cars, plumbing and even as an annex to Oregon Coast Community College. The building was deemed unsafe.
