The Nyssa girls won the OSAA 3A State Basketball Championship Saturday over league rival Burns 33-30 at Marshfield High School, Coos Bay. It was the fourth meeting between the two Eastern Oregon League teams this season. The Bulldogs won two of the three earlier games and the Hilanders one. Sutherlin took third place downing Oregon Episcopal 62-38 and Santiam Christian won the fourth-place trophy 41-16 over Amity.

Cascade Christian of Medford won the OSAA 3A Boys Basketball State Championship Saturday 52-45 over De La Salle North Catholic of Portland at Marshfield High School, Coos Bay. The third-place trophy went to Westside Christian 45-42 over Dayton and Umatilla won the fourth-place trophy 50-47 over Vale.

Marshfield’s boys advanced to the OSAA 4A State Basketball Tournament beginning Thursday, March 10 at North Bend High School with a 77-56 win over visiting Corbett Friday at the Pirate Palace, Coos Bay. The No. 3 Seed Pirates (22-4) will play No. 11 Seed Banks (19-6) Thursday, March 10, 8:45 p.m. Banks won at La Grande 58-55 Friday to advance to the tournament. No. 1 Seed Junction City (22-3) joined the party with a 54-39 win over Molalla and No. 2 Seed Cascade (19-3) advanced with a 67-49 win over Marist Catholic.

No. 3 Seed Baker (20-5) ousted visiting Marshfield from the OSAA 4A Girls Basketball State Playoffs Saturday with a 50-20 win over the Lady Pirates (17-9). No. 1 Seed Philomath (19-4) qualified for the State Tournament beginning Thursday, March 10, at Marshfield High School, Coos Bay. The Warriors downed Henley 69-52 and No. 2 Seed Cascade (19-3) also advanced with a 58-48 win over visiting La Grande. District 4 Champion Junction City (20-4), the No. 4 Seed, lost at home to No. 13 Seed Hidden Valley (14-10) 51-42.
