City of Coos Bay release – 1030 Arago Ave Structural Fire, On March 10, 2022 at 10:14am Coos Bay Fire Department was dispatched to the report of a structure fire at 1030 Arago Ave in the Empire District. The first Engine Company arrived within two minutes from time of call. Upon arrival, crews found thin black smoke coming from the front door. First arriving Engine Company located the resident and were informed that everyone was out. The resident declined medical attention. It was determined that the fire was located in the kitchen on the stove top and extended to the kitchen cabinets. Seven minutes after arrival the fire was under control. Firefighters examined the attic space to see if the fire had extended into the attic, it was determined that it did not. Firefighters then used fan to remove toxic gases and fumes from the residence. The estimated loss due to the fire is $50,000. Most of the damage is due to smoke. The structure was turned back over to the resident.
