LCSO release – On Monday afternoon, March 28, a Lane County deputy sheriff spotted a vehicle speeding westbound on I-105 in Springfield. The deputy initiated a traffic stop and contacted the driver, 37 year old Raymond Kennedy of Eugene. As the deputy was waiting for a records check, he observed Kennedy hand multiple items to his female passenger. Kennedy was found to have multiple warrants for his arrest and a suspended driver license at which time he was taken into custody. The passenger admitted there was meth in the vehicle and Kennedy had handed her a stun-gun. An OSP drug detection K9 responded to the scene and also alerted to the presence of drugs in the vehicle. The Deputy applied for a search warrant to seize and search the vehicle and its contents. Kennedy was transported to the Lane County Jail and lodged on charges including Felon in Possession of a Restricted Weapon, Driving While Suspended – Misdemeanor, and the outstanding warrants. Inside the vehicle deputies located over half a pound of methamphetamine, approximately 75 grams of heroin, over 10 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, approximately 500 pills suspected to be fentanyl, several hundred dollars in cash, and three firearms. One of the firearms was confirmed as stolen and another was a ‘ghost gun’ lacking any serial numbers or identification. Additional charges are under consideration.
