Battery-Powered Chainsaw for NBFD, July 18

Part of the City Administrator’s report to the North Bend City Council. NBFD Fire Chief Jim Brown – On the 4th of July, the fire department responded to a mutual aid request for a rope rescue to the Charleston bluffs. Coos Bay and North Bay responded with their technical rescue teams as well, and we were able to retrieve a person who was trapped and bring them to safety. During this operation, one of our volunteer firefighters was present and realized that a battery-powered chainsaw would be a fantastic tool for us to have. Our volunteer association then purchased a 12” battery-powered chainsaw for the fire department. They also agreed at their business meeting to buy three more handheld radios. These essential tools were purchased partially with the proceeds from the pancake feed breakfast. Our volunteers have also purchased the remaining balance of one of our electric exhaust fans this year. This is a fantastic group that supports our fire department with firefighters and purchasing needed equipment.
