Leisure and Hospitality Sector Shows Gains in July – Oregon Employment Dept. release – Coos County total payroll employment fell by 350 jobs in July. Leisure and hospitality (+80); manufacturing (+50); and professional and business services (+20) were the sectors with job gains over the month. Employment fell in transportation, warehousing, and utilities (-30) and in private educational and health services (-30). Government employment had a net decline of 460 jobs. Local government education employment fell by 440 and local government excluding education and tribal slipped by 30 jobs over the month. Coos County total payroll employment fell by 430 jobs over the past year. The largest drop was in professional and business services which lost 300 jobs. Private education and health services (-50); mining and logging (-40); manufacturing (-20); and transportation, warehousing, and utilities (-20) showed job losses since July 2021. Retail trade (+30) and wholesale trade (+20) saw job increases over the year. Curry County payroll employment grew by 20 jobs in July. Leisure and hospitality gained 90 jobs while smaller increases across a number of sectors were offset by a loss of 110 jobs in local government education. Over the past year, Curry County payroll employment rose by 80 jobs. Gains were estimated in leisure and hospitality (+40); construction (+20); information (+10); and other services (+10).
