Marshfield senior Alex Garcia-Silver won the high school portion of the Ash Creek XC Festival at Monmouth Saturday. Garcia-Silver set a new MHS school record in winning the 5K Run in 15:09.70. There were 222 runners in the race. Marshfield is scheduled to next run Tuesday, Sept. 13, Fugate Farms Invite, Bandon. North Bend’s cross country teams ran at the Marist Invite Saturday, Eugene. Sheldon won the boy’s portion with the Bulldogs fifth. Senior Aidin Wilson was the top finisher for North Bend placing 23rd in the 5K race (18:46.6). North Bend was fifth in the girl’s race also won by Sheldon. Freshman Ellie Massey was the top finisher for the Bulldogs in 14th (22:41.9). North Bend is next scheduled to run at the Prefontaine Run, Saturday, Sept. 17, Coos Bay.

Marshfield’s volleyball team won at Horizon Christian Tualatin Friday, 3-0. On Saturday, Marshfield competed in the 16-team Cascade Invite at Turner. The Pirates beat Stayton and Harrisburg in pool play, but lost to Sisters 2-1 in the finals. Marshfield (8-2) is scheduled to host Junction City Thursday, 6:45p.

Prep VB Polls
Going into this past weekend’s prep volleyball tournament at Cascade, Marshfield was ranked No. 2 in the OSAA/Coach’s 4A volleyball poll, while the host Cougars are ranked No. 1. Marist Catholic shows up as No. 3, followed by Banker, Scappoose, Philomath, Crook Co., Henley, the Dalles and North Bend. Siuslaw is No. 10 in the 3A Poll. Bandon is No. 9 and Gold Beach No. 10 in the 2A Poll.

North Bend’s football team got its first win of the 2022 prep season with a 27-20 victory over Willamette of Eugene Friday. The Bulldogs (1-1) are scheduled to play at Marshfield Friday, 7 p.m. Marshfield lost at Cascade Friday 30-6. The Pirates (1-1) host North Bend Friday, Pete Susick Stadium, Coos Bay.

North Bend’s girls downed Crook Co. 8-3 in a non-conference soccer match at Prineville Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs (2-2) are scheduled to host Thurston, Saturday, Sept. 17, noon, Vic Adams Field. North Bend’s boys also won at Prineville, 4-1 over the Cowboys. Bulldogs (1-2-1) play Thurston/Mohawk Saturday, Sept. 17, 2p, Vic Adams Field. Marshfield’s boys (0-2) are scheduled to host Newport (2-0-1), Monday, Sept. 12, 6p, Pete Susick Stadium, Coos Bay. Marshfield’s girls’ match with Newport Saturday was cancelled. Next match is Sweet Home at home, Tuesday, Sept. 13, 5p.
