Prefontaine HS Run
Marshfield senior Alexander Garcia Silver rewrote the record books Saturday during the 10th annual high school portion of the Prefontaine Memorial Run. The Pirate ran the 5K course in 14:45.1 bettering the previous record (15:48) and re-setting the school record for the third time. North Bend senior Aidin Wilson led the Bulldogs placing 18th (18:18.6) overall. Grants Pass won the team competition with Marshfield third and North Bend seventh. Nettle Grey, a sophomore at Grants Pass, won the girl’s race (19:20.7). North Bend senior Sara Slade was 13th (21:59.6), and Marshfield junior Jenna Erickson 72nd (32:16.7). Grants Pass also won the girl’s team race, with North Bend fourth and Marshfield incomplete. Marshfield and North Bend both run at the Myrtle Pt. Harvest Festival Sept. 24th.

Prefontaine Memorial Run
The 41st annual Prefontaine Memorial Run returned to the streets of Coos Bay Saturday following a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nicole Goens, Rogue River, took first place in the female portion of the 10K Run (40:31.0), while Manuel Finley, Seattle, won the men’s portion (34:31.7).
