Marshfield downed Ashland 45-8 in a 4A Big Sky League prep football game Friday night in Southern Oregon. MHS senior quarterback Landon Croff was 22-of-32 for 344-yards and five-touchdowns. North Bend fell 54-14 at Stayton in a non-league contest. Marshfield (3-0, 5-1) is scheduled to host Henley (3-0, 6-0) Friday at Pete Susick Stadium, Coos Bay. Henley beat Klamath Union 54-7 Friday. North Bend (1-2, 2-4) is scheduled to play at Hidden Valley Friday. The Mustangs (1-3, 2-4) lost at Mazama Friday 47-0.

Marshfield’s volleyball team was swept by visiting Crater 3-0 Friday night at the Pirate Palace, Coos Bay. The Comets (7-0, 13-4) lead the 5A Midwestern League, while the Lady Pirates (6-0, 14-3) are tops in the 4A District 4 league race. Marshfield plays at Marist Catholic, Eugene, Wednesday.

Prep VB Polls
Marshfield is the top-ranked 4A volleyball team in the State according to the weekly OSAA/Coach’s Polls. The Lady Pirates (14-3) are followed by Cascade (11-2), The Dalles (17-2), Crook Co. (12-7) and Baker (13-3). North Bend (10-6) moves into the polls tied with Mazama (9-6) for 8th. Siuslaw (11-6) is No. 10 in the 3A Poll, and Bandon is No. 10 in the 2A Poll.

Marshfield’s boys were seventh (211) out of 18-teams at the Paul Mariman Invitational, Philomath HS, Saturday. Philomath won the meet (46), followed by Siuslaw (63), Valley Catholic (87), Marist Catholic (114), Cottage Grove (125) and Klamath Union (173). Senior Jaden Owens, Cottage Grove, won the 5K race in 16:34.6. Sophomore Bodey Lutes was 21st (18:41.6) to pace the Pirate boys. Philomath also won the girl’s 5K race. Marshfield has an incomplete team. Sophomore Adele Beckstead won the race for the host Warriors (19:36.8). Marshfield freshman Riley Mullanix was 75th (25:19.9). Marshfield’s next team competition is Saturday, Oct. 15th at the Country Fair Classic, Veneta. However, senior Alex Garcia Silver is scheduled to run Thursday, Oct. 13, at the Crater Track Twilight 5K on the Comets’ track in Central Point. North Bend had the weekend off. The Bulldogs are scheduled to run Wednesday, Oct. 12 at the Cinnamon Roll Run, Buffington Park, Port Orford.
