A split for the Bay Area prep football teams Friday night. North Bend went on the road and beat Hidden Valley 21-18 at Murphy, while Marshfield lost at home to unbeaten Henley 29-15. Two games remain in the regular season, Hidden Valley (1-4, 2-5) plays at Marshfield (3-1, 5-2) Friday, while North Bend (2-2, 3-4) hosts Ashland (0-4, 1-6). No. 1 ranked Mazama (4-0, 7-0) and No. 2 ranked Henley (4-0, 7-0) lead the Big Sky League. They collide Friday at Henley in the Klamath Basin.

Top-ranked Marshfield went unbeaten in its own prep volleyball tournament Saturday at the Pirate Palace, Coos Bay. The Lady Pirates better Marist Catholic 2-0, North Bend 2-0 and Mazama 2-0. Marshfield and North Bend end the regular season against one another Tuesday, Oct. 18, at MHS.

North Bend’s boys placed second at the Country Fair Classic cross-country meet Saturday at Veneta. The Bulldogs scored 113-points. Philomath nearly ran a perfect race in winning the team competition with 19-points as the Warriors placed six runners in the top eight. Senior Aidin Wilson led North Bend with a 12th place finish in 18:35.0 for the 5K course. Philomath’s Ben Hernandez won in 16:41.1. Stayton won the girls’ race with 34-points. North bend was fourth with 108. Freshman Ellie Massey led the Bulldogs with a 16th place finish (23:01). Sophomore Haley Butenschoen won the race in 20:32.1. North Bend is scheduled to run at the Umpqua Invite, Stewart Park, Roseburg, on Wednesday, Oct. 19. Marshfield ran in the JV race. The Pirate boys, led by junior Corbin Reeves, first place finish, also took first as a team. Reeves won in 18:20.7 and teammate Elijah Cellura was second in 18:26.0. Freshman Riley Mullanix won the JV girls race in 24:14.0. Marshfield is next scheduled to run at the District 4 Championships Thursday, Oct. 27.
