Marshfield’s volleyball team completed a perfect 4A District 4 prep season by beating cross-town rival North Bend 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-11) Tuesday at the Pirate Palace, Coos Bay. It was the final match of the regular season for both schools. The Lady Pirates (8-0, 19-3), as the league champions, will have a bye from the “Play-In Round” and host an OSAA First-Round playoff match on Oct. 29. Marshfield is the top-ranked 4A team. The OSAA rankings freeze on Thursday, Oct. 20. North Bend (5-3, 11-7) falls into a tie for second place with Marist Catholic (5-3, 11-7). The Spartans won at Cottage Grove 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-18). North Bend and Marist Catholic will play at a neutral site to determine the league’s No. 2 & No. 3 teams entering the playoffs as the two teams split their regular season matches. Marshfield has scheduled an extra post season match against 3A Cascade Christian at Douglas HS, Winston, Tuesday, Oct. 25, 4:30 p.m. The Challengers (8-1, 15-7), from Medford, are No. 3 in the Far West League, won by Coquille (10-0, 17-5). Cascade Christian is ranked No. 10 in the 3A classification.

It was a Marist Catholic sweep of visiting Marshfield Tuesday in a pair of 4A District 4 prep soccer matches at Eugene. The Spartan boys won 5-2, and the girls won 8-0. The Pirates have one more match in the regular season Thursday at home to North Bend. Marshfield’s girls (4-2-1, 7-4-2) are currently in second-place behind Marist Catholic (7-0, 12-1), while North Bend (3-2-2, 5-5-2) is in third. Marist Catholic (6-0-1, 7-5-1) also leads the boys’ race with one to go. Cottage Grove (4-2-1, 6-4-3) is second and Marshfield (3-1-3, 3-6-3) is third. Cottage Grove finishes with Marist Catholic Thursday.

North Bend’s cross-country teams are scheduled to run at the Umpqua Invite, Stewart Park, Roseburg, Wednesday.
