South Coast Employment in Local Government Education Rises – Oregon Employment Dept. release – Coos County total payroll employment rose by 50 jobs in September. Local government education gained 100 jobs over the month with the start of the school year. Both transportation, warehousing, and utilities, as well as private education and health services added 20 jobs in September. Employment fell in leisure and hospitality (-50), financial activities (-20), and retail trade (-20). Coos County total payroll employment fell by 170 jobs over the past year. The largest drops were in professional and business services and general merchandise stores, which both lost 70 jobs. Job losses since September 2021 occurred in financial activities (-60), private education and health services (-30), mining and logging (-30), and private education and health services (-30). Retail trade (+40), leisure and hospitality (+40), wholesale trade (+40), and construction (+40) had job increases over the year. Curry County payroll employment grew by 30 jobs in September. Local government education posted the largest gain, up by 80 jobs. Leisure and hospitality shed 30 jobs over the month. Over the past year, Curry County payroll employment rose by 90 jobs. Gains were estimated in leisure and hospitality (+80), construction (+20), and other services (+20). Job losses were estimated in financial activities (-20); private education and health services (-20); and
professional and business services (-20). The South Coast area is still down 920 payroll jobs from the total in September 2019.
