It was a rough night in the Klamath Basin for the Bay Area’s two prep football teams. At the final games of the regular season, Marshfield fell 44-15 to Big Sky Conference champion Mazama (6-0, 9-0) at Klamath Falls, while a short-distance away North Bend lost 55-24 to Henley (5-1, 8-1), the league’s runners-up. The Pirates (4-2, 6-3) finish third and Bulldogs (3-3, 4-5) fourth.

With no 4A prep football games on Saturday, the OSAA set the match-ups for the First-Round of 2022 playoffs with the end of the regular season Friday. Marshfield (6-3) advances as the No. 9 seed and will play at Scappoose (7-2) the No. 8 seed, Friday, Nov. 4, 7 p.m. The winner advances to the quarter-final round to play the winner of the No. 16 seed Seaside (5-4) at No. 1 seed Mazama (9-0) at Klamath Falls, Nov. 11-12. In the 3A playoffs, No. 9 seed Siuslaw (7-2) plays at No. 8 Vale (6-2), Sat., Nov. 5, 1 p.m. (MT). No. 11 Coquille (6-3) is at No. 6 Dayton (7-2), Friday, Nov. 4. In the 2A playoffs, No. 12 Bandon/Pacific (5-3) travels to No. 5 Regis (8-1), at Stayton, Friday, Nov. 4, 7 p.m. No. 11 Taft (7-2) is at No. 6 Gold Beach (8-1), Friday, Nov. 4, 7 p.m. In the 1A 8-Man Classification, No. 5 Myrtle Pt. (5-3) hosts Sherman/Condon (6-2) Saturday, Nov. 5, 1 p.m. And, 1A Six-Man has No. 8 Eddyville Charter (5-3) at No. 1 Powers (8-0), Saturday, Nov. 5, 1 p.m.

Marshfield’s volleyball team advanced to the 2022 OSAA 4A State Volleyball Tournament at Springfield HS, Nov. 4th, 8 a.m. after defeating visiting La Grande in three-straight sets (25-4, 25-14, 25-11) Saturday, at Coos Bay. The Lady Pirates (21-3) will open the two-day tournament against Crook Co. a 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-22) winner over visiting Marist Catholic, Saturday, at Prineville. The Cowgirls (18-10) are the No. 2 seed from the Tri-Valley Conference. North Bend fell in three-straight sets (25-14, 25-12, 25-14) at Mazama (15-7), Klamath Falls, Saturday. The Bulldogs end the season with a 12-10 record. All of the advancing playoff teams won by 3-0 scores at home. In the 3A classification, also at Springfield HS, Nov. 4th & 5th, No. 15 seed Siuslaw plays No. 7 Creswell on Friday, Nov. 4, 3:15 p.m.

Marshfield’s girls won their “Play-In” round 4A prep soccer match over visiting St. Helens Friday 2-1 on penalty kicks (4-3). The Lady Pirates (8-5-2) advance to the First Round of the OSAA playoffs and will play at No. 2 seed Hidden Valley (9-2-1) on Nov. 2, south of Grants Pass at Murphy. North Bend defeated visiting Cascade 2-1 in their “Play-In” match Saturday. The Bulldogs (7-5-2) will travel to No. 5 seed Scappoose (12-1-1), Wednesday, Nov. 2, 6 p.m. Marshfield’s boys fell 1-0 to visiting Cascade at Pete Susick Stadium, Saturday, at Coos Bay. The Pirates finish 4-7-3. Also along the South Coast, 3A Boys’ bracket, No. 8 seed Coquille/Myrtle Pt. (12-1-1) hosts Riverside (10-3-1), Tuesday, Nov. 1, 3:30 p.m. No. 12 Gold Beach (10-3-1) is at No. 5 St. Mary’s, Medford (12-1), Tuesday, Nov. 1, 4 p.m. In the girl’s 3A/2A/1A bracket, No. 20 Brookings-Harbor (6-7-2) lost at No. 13 McLoughlin (12-2-2), at Milton-Freewater, 2-0, Saturday, Oct. 29.
