Together With Veterans – NW Oregon Offering Free Peer Support Specialist Training, Nov. 22

ODVA release – Together With Veterans NW Oregon has been awarded a grant from Oregon Health Authority (OHA) to provide two in-person Peer Support Specialist trainings (with Addictions focus) between October 2022 and February 2023. We are looking to add 40 more Peer Support Specialists to aid in supporting the cause throughout Oregon. This training is covered over four days and one day’s worth of homework, totaling 40 training hours. This funding opportunity is being offered in response to the 2019 Oregon Veterans Behavioral Health Services Improvement Study, feedback received at community forums, and requests made by organizations serving veterans in counties identified as predominantly Rural and/or Frontier. OHA is a state governmental agency with a single overarching strategic goal: to eliminate health inequities in Oregon by 2030. OHA’s Health Equity definition is as follows: Oregon will have established a health system that creates health equity when all people can reach their full health potential and well-being and are not disadvantaged by their race, ethnicity, language, disability, age, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, social class, intersections among these communities or identities, or other socially determined circumstances. Achieving health equity requires the ongoing collaboration of all regions and sectors of the state, including tribal governments to: • Address the equitable distribution or redistribution of resources and power; and • Recognize, reconcile, and rectify historical and contemporary injustices. Two training opportunities are scheduled: December 5th through 8th, 2022; *Second date is to be determined. Information on date will be released in November 2022.* For these two training offerings, training days will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 9:00am-5:00pm. – Lunch will be provided daily. – Lodging accommodations in a local hotel are available for up to five days if you are attending the training. Lodging accommodations will typically begin with a Sunday afternoon check-in and check-out of Thursday morning prior to the final day of training.
