ODA report – Updated on December 9, 2022 – The Oregon Department of Agriculture provides information to the public about where to harvest shellfish and crab that is safe to eat. Always check harvest conditions before collecting or consuming shellfish or crab. OPEN – Razor clams: closed. Mussels: South jetty of the Columbia River – California Border. Bay clams: South jetty of the Columbia River – California Border. Crab: South jetty of the Columbia River – Takhenitch Creek N 43º 47’. Crab: Cape Blanco – California Border. CLOSED – Razor clams: South jetty of the Columbia River – California border. Crab: Takhenitch Creek N 43º 47’ – Cape Blanco. WARNING: Shellfish should never be collected from areas closed for biotoxins. Biotoxins are poisons that cannot be destroyed by cooking, freezing or any other means and remain toxic. Re-opening beaches for recreational harvest after a biotoxin closure requires two separate samples with results below the closure limit. These samples must be at least one week apart. The Oregon Department of Agriculture regularly tests for shellfish toxins and will post information online at https://oda.direct/ShellfishClosures
