Two games remain in the prep basketball regular season for the boy’s & girl’s Bay Area teams and the fight for the post season playoffs are underway. North Bend’s boys won at Cottage Grove Friday night 60-47 to tighten the race for the third and the final playoff spot from District 4. Marshfield had the night off from league play and traveled to Newport where the Pirates beat the Cubs 60-55. North Bend (2-5, 8-12) now trails Cottage Grove (2-4, 10-11) for third place by a half-a-game. Marshfield (1-5, 10-12) is one-and-a-half back of the Lions. Cottage Grove will finish with games at first-place Junction City (7-0, 21-2) Tuesday and host second-place Marist Catholic (4-2, 10-11) Friday. North Bend has one game remaining at Marshfield Friday, Feb. 17. The Pirates go to Marist Catholic on Tuesday and end with the Bulldogs at home.

North Bend’s girls lost 45-38 at Cottage Grove on Friday. The Bulldogs (1-6, 6-16) end the regular season Friday, Feb. 17, at Marshfield. The Lady Pirates (5-1, 15-5) had the night off and will play at first-place Marist Catholic (6-0, 15-5) on Tuesday in Eugene, and then end the regular season with Bulldogs at home Friday.

OSAA Cheer
The OSAA State Cheer Championships were held Saturday, Oregon City HS. In the 4A Traditional Classification, North Bend placed fifth. Gladstone won (102.40), followed by Sweet Home (92.30), The Dalles (92.10), Newport (89.80) and the Bulldogs (82.00).
