Marshfield’s baseball team beat visiting Sutherlin 11-1 in a non-league game at Coos Bay Tuesday. The Pirates (2-3) next take on Tillamook in a doubleheader at Newport Saturday 1 & 3 p.m. North Bend’s boys downed visiting Bandon/Pacific 9-1 at Clyde Allen Field. The Bulldogs (1-2) travel to the Coach Bob Invitational in Arizona March 27 to play Cleveland.

Marshfield’s softball team downed visiting Sutherlin 15-5 (6) in an early season meeting of two unbeaten teams at Coos Head Field, Tuesday, Coos Bay. The Lady Pirates (4-0) next head to Newport Saturday for a game against the Cubs at 1 p.m. and then Tillamook at 3 p.m. North Bend’s girls beat visiting Brookings-Harbor 16-2 at the Oak Street Park Fields. The Bulldogs (2-2) play Chico HS in Chico, CA on Friday, March 24.

Marshfield junior Daphne Scriven won both the Shot Put (32’ 8.5) and the Discus (113-10) to lead the Pirate track team Tuesday at their own Ice Breaker meet on Prefontaine Track, Coos Bay. Junior Qwentyn Petty also won two events the Long Jump (19-10), and the 200 (24.13). Marshfield swept the boy’s pole vault with junior Danner Wilson winning at 14-6, followed by classmate Jonathon Parks (14-0) and senior Trent Summers (14-0). Also on the girl’s side, junior Alyrian Covey won the Pole Vault (6-6) and the 400 (1:10.03). The Pirates next meet will be April 4 at Junction City.
