A Poet’s Eye photographic exhibition at Coos Art Museum, July 10

From July 11 through October 3, Coos Art Museum will be hosting A Poet’s Eye: Photography by Janis Cedras Ayers. A multi-talented individual, Janis Ayers has been a professional dancer, poet and music producer. While working as a producer and videographer/archivist for singer/songwriter Paul Simon, she got to travel the world and fell in love with still photography. Fascinated in the relationship between the photographic and the poetic image, she explores the ability of photography to capture what she cannot get from words. Her photographs were included in the PBS documentary on Paul Simon “Born at the Right Time” for American Masters Series. Her most recent photographic exhibition was at Southern Coos Hospital in Bandon, Oregon. She now lives in Bandon with her husband sculptor Ken Ayers. In addition to her photography she continues to write poetry and short prose with many recent publications including: Reductions, Ragazine, Lake Affect and Afterimage, The Language of Color: Writers Respond to the Work of Georgia O’Keefe, and Common Intuitions.
