Airport Park Rehabilitation Groundbreaking, Feb. 8

SORA release – (North Bend) – The Coos County Airport District and the Coos Bay-North Bend Rotary Club will host a ceremonial groundbreaking, Thursday, Feb. 8th, 1:30 p.m., at the Airport Heights Park Playground to kick off a revitalization project. The park is located inside the property boundaries of the district and has been in place since the development of the neighborhood more than 40 years ago. The two organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding to rehabilitate the park using a multi-year phased approach. That will start with the removal of some play structures, the placement of new equipment, and the development of a master plan for the 13-acre park/recreation area. The park currently includes an outdoor volleyball area, a basketball court, tennis courts, baseball fields, and a playground area. The district purchased a swing set and multi-use Synergy Play System to add to the playground area. The equipment will be installed over the next five weeks. While work is happening, the playground area will be temporarily closed. The rest of the park and trails will remain open to the public. Some of the playground areas may be re-opened on the weekend. The groundbreaking will start several months of planning to create a master plan for the entire park area. The public is invited to attend and learn more about the project and help celebrate the beginning of the project. Airport Heights Park is located off Colorado near Airport Lane in North Bend, OR. The public will have several opportunities to present ideas and offer input as options for the park are developed.
